These are significant because they are capable of harvesting energy from both their back area and front area. This is unlike the traditional variants which uses only the front side. As per Wood Mackenzie Power and Renewable report, by 2020, the world will see 5.4 GW of bifacial solar capacity.

And, most of it will be in Asia. It states that in another five years, the capacity will increase by a factor of 10. Besides, the deployment will be almost equal between Asia and North America.

At this point, it is necessary to bring in the role of bifacial PERC (Passivated Emitter Rear Contact) solar modules. Not only do these include pros related to one-sided mono PERC tech, it also generates higher output. Additionally, they are more reliable and thus witnessing increase in demand and popularity. In fact, this is responsible for lowering of bifocal module costs. The ability to improve cell conversion efficiency by reducing surface combination is another factor in this case.
