Researches Develop Innovative Technique for Vaccine Manufacturing that is Low-cost and Shelf-stable

Vaccine Manufacturing

A team of researchers from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston has recently developed a comparatively less expensive method for the Vaccine Manufacturing. Making use of this technique will help in cutting down the cost of the vaccine manufacturing production and the storage by around 80%. This cost-reduction can be done by reducing the effectiveness and safety of the vaccines. The research findings that have been conducted by the research have been made available in EBioMedicine.

Vaccines are used extensively across the globe and is considered as an effective way to eradicate and prevent several infectious diseases. At present, the vaccine manufacturing is a costly method, owing to which, the price of the vaccine is very high. In order to reduce the cost of vaccines, this technique has been introduced. In addition to this, the several vaccines are required to store in refrigerator throughout the transportation, which again adds tremendously to the cost of the vaccine.

The research team has recently studied a live Zika vaccine in the form of DNA. As the DNA is injected inside the body, it launches the vaccine content in the cells, further resulting to antibody production and several other protective immunity. With the help of this method, the manufacturing of the vaccine in the cell culture or eggs in the factories can be completely avoided. The reduction in the cost of transportation and cold storage is expected to act as a boon for the consumers as these vaccines will be available at a low-cost, thus allowing the low-income consumer to buy when required.
